History
The home was built in 1924 at a cost of $150,000 1924 dollars ($2.8 million in today's dollars) as one of three Moore family homes adjacent to one another in Monticello. The uniquely constructed, architect-designed home is part of a nationally registered historic district consisting of century-old mansions that line North State Street in Monticello, a town of 5000 founded in 1837 and situated a one-half hour drive from the larger cities of Champaign/Urbana (with its flagship campus of the University of Illinois) to the east, and Decatur to the west.Recent Improvements
Since 2008 when the home was purchased by its current owners, approximately one million dollars of improvements to the home and its grounds have been made. These improvements include: two new modern boilers have been added for efficient hot water heating through the original radiators; three new air conditioning systems have also been installed; significant replumbing and rewiring throughout the house; the original walnut floors have been refinished throughout the house; a modern kitchen and kitchen nook built; the elaborate, carved and arched plaster ceilings in the living room and dining room were restored to their original beauty; new crystal chandeliers installed throughout the house, including a very large, custom-designed chandelier for the great hall; custom designed wrought iron railing added to master hall main stairway; custom designed sculpted outer doors added to front entry; all fireplaces re-bricked with fire-proof bricks; new pool liner and pool heater installed; automatic back-up electrical generator installed; four new sump pumps added to basement; new garage doors and garage door openers; added gates, iron fencing, and walkways connection the pool to the house; resurfacing of the long circular drive to the house; new large fountain at the center of the driveway circle; very extensive landscaping, including surrounding hedges, trees, and other greenery to enhance the secluded, estate feel of the 3 (plus) acre property; three of the four major bathrooms have been completely redesigned and refurbished; an upstairs laundry room has been added; entire house, exterior and interior, repainted.Comments & Feedback
