A Glorious Restoration

The Wulfekuhler-Welch House is a landmark in the historic city of Leavenworth (a smaller town with a diverse culture and eclectic feel, which is a suburb of Kansas City~ visit www.leavenworthcounty.org). The city has many antique homes, and many historic buildings. Historic Fort Leavenworth is adjacent to the city. Once operated as the "Skyview" Victorian Restaurant, where she hosted top Military Brass, proms, wedding rehearsals, and people from all over the Mid West, this home has now been fully restored to its former residential grandeur! The home was built in 1892, and was a single family home until the mid 1900's ,when a restauranteur and his wife bought the mansion, made the first floor an operating commercial restaurant, and resided on the 2nd floor. This business continued in the mansion until December 31, 2005, after which these owners purchased it (they are the 4th family in 115 years to reside here), and began its' restoration. Every last detail was observed in taking the mansion back to a residence. The home has much of the original woodwork, wood floors, original wood windows(which are still on the pulley system, and work wonderful!), light fixtures, a chauffeur shower, tin ceilings, stained glass, "top hat" closets, fireplaces, an original wrought iron fence that crosses the front of the property and an original wine rack which holds 100 bottles in the basement. The main residence is zoned heated/ cooled 5000 square feet. The walk up attic is unfinished, but has an additional 2000+ sq. ft that could be finished(duct work would have to be flattened or covered), with vaulted ceilings that span over 18ft at their highest point. The home also has a full basement, with an additional 2000 square feet, the ceiling heights make it appropriate for a wine cellar or just a great storage area. There is also a work shop and water closet in the basement(it is a walk out). There is a 2 car garage/ original carriage house located to the West of the home. The main residences' rooms are GENEROUS(including the bedrooms)~ master bedroom is 17X20 with a bay window and a working fireplace. The fourth bedroom(15X15) has been converted to a master closet, with shelves, hanging, and an island, but can be easily converted back to a bedroom. The laundry/sewing room is on the second(bedroom) level of the home. The homes' bathrooms(2 full on bedroom level, 1 half bath on main level and the basement water closet) are reflective of the "art deco" style. There are front/back staircases. There are 4 working fireplaces in the home, plus an antique gas stove in the hearth room that heats very well. There is a fenced back yard. This home is located about 25 minutes from Kansas City International airport, and is also about 15 minutes from "Legends", Kansas City's newest shopping, restaurants, hotels, entertainment and Nascar race track! About 35 minutes to Kansas city's downtown region.
