Details of Tanglewood Estate

For only the second time in 76 years this historic home is on the market. Tanglewood, constructed in stone with a slate roof, sits high above the road in natural style landscaping. Built by a Philadelphia Industrialist in 1939 in the Norman style with Deco and Art Nouveau interior touches and set on six wooded acres with level lawn surrounding the house, it provides the ultimate in privacy, convenience and utility. In 2010 a Carriage House and Garages were added, connecting to the main house by an architecturally appropriate covered walkway. Stones from existing walls on the property were incorporated into the building, making the transition from old to new seamless. In addition to the 5 bedrooms and 3 and 2 half baths in the main house, there is an additional guest suite with full bath in the Carriage House. Carriage House also contains a large vaulted ceiling room with propane fireplace, suitable for entertaining, home office or use by guests and an outdoor woodburning fireplace and stone patio. The current owners have carefully restored and retained the original charm of the property- hardwood floors, tall windows, French doors and curved staircase with stainless balustrade in foyer- but adding modern updates like central air-conditioning, new windows, new and updated baths, a gourmet kitchen and a three car garage. Former porch was converted to a cozy stone walled den and all the patios have been surrounded by blooming shrubs and flowers, providing for quiet rest and relaxation. Tanglewood is listed on the Tredyffrin Township register of historic buildings, with plaque displayed at the left of the front door, and has been on the Historic Homes Tour.
