A little history and additional information:
This house is all that is left of the originally 9,000 square foot home, owned by Dr. Buchanan of Mineola, Texas (about 13 miles from Quitman). The doctor raised a large family and operated his family practice out of the home for years. In 1962, long after Buchanan's death, the land was sold and the house was subsequently going to be demolished to make way for a new bank. Instead, it was sold to two separate parties; half of the house was moved to Tyler, Texas, where it later burned, and the other half was bought by a local and moved to the Quitman area, and in 1972, a new wing was added. The home is situated on a hillside, making for southeastern breezes on the family sized porch, surrounded by mature pecans, dogwoods, oaks, pines, and a huge, glorious Magnolia in the front. The outskirts of the property is solidly lined with trees, and neighbors cannot be seen even during the winter months. The property is horse ready, with stable, tack room and fenced pastures.
Features:
Completely renovated two story home features 3887 sq. ft. of living space, with historical hand carved mantle above a wood burning fireplace; formal dining; updated kitchen; private stairway leading to the roomy master bedroom. Large game room complete with ornate 9 foot pool table and accessories (included). This room also has a wet bar, full size refrigerator, and two sets of full view French doors opening out onto the lawn. It's a short walk to the two acre private lake, complete with rebuilt dock, fishing boat and trailer. The property is located 4.5 miles from the Wood County Courthouse in Quitman, TX., which has a population of approx. 2,500 people. Lake Fork Reservoir, a world-renowned bass fishing lake, is 10 miles away. Quitman features retail merchants, banks, churches, public library, excellent schools, and a beautiful old family park with a covered pavilion for concerts.
