1820s STONE HOME ON 43 ACRES

A Brief History
During the three days of the Battle of Gettysburg, John Arendt and his family lived in the stone house and farmed the acreage surrounding it. The claim which he submitted to the US Government for the damages done by the rebels who killed his hogs, trampled his crops, stole the tack for his horse, and ripped shingles from his barn for their campfires, was never paid.
At the end of the first day of fighting, General Robert E. Lee's reserve division (Anderson's) was camped at Arendt's farm as were the Army of Northern Virginia's logistical troops and supply wagons.
