Historical Mt. Savage
Located in the Allegany Mountains of Maryland, Mt.Savage was founded in 1879 and is now the oldest existing community in Allegany County. This closely knit community boasts of being the first Iron Rail builder in the nation in 1844 and supported three brick producers. Mt.Savage borders more than 350 miles of hiking/biking trails along the C&O Canal and Paw Paw Tunnel. Nestled between Frostburg and Cumberland, there are several signature golf courses, cross country skiing at New Germany and downhill skiing at Wisp. Whitewater rafting, canoeing and horseback riding are a stones throw.Rocky Gap and Savage River State Parks are within a few miles.
