This rare home was built By Judge O.P. Powell, he was one of the first Judges in Jersey County, There are actually 2 other homes similar to this home in the county, this is the oldest of the 3. This home was made to last! It features 18 inch thick brick walls throughout. This 3 brick thick design helps to keep the home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. The bricks for this home were all constructed on site and it took 10 years to complete.
All the original windows are still intact along with 14 ft ceilings and 9 ft. doors. This home originally had a windowed tower. The home originally had gas lights and had sinks with hot and cold running water in every room. There was a holding tank on the roof that caught rain water, the water then went to the basement and a windmill on the roof pumped the heated water back up to the sinks, this home was truly ahead of its time, there is 1 original granite sink in the upstairs bathroom.
This huge home features a formal Entryway, Dining room, South Parlor, Huge eat in kitchen, main floor laundry, and main floor master suite with master bath that includes a huge sunken jetted jacuzzi tub and separate shower with tons of storage space and big walk-in closets.
The full 1700sq.ft. basement has 8ft. ceilings and a fireplace for the house servants. The slate sided part of the roof is in intact. The Plumbing, Electric, Heating System and Central Air was updated in 1994, New roof and septic System in 2004. The electric was upgraded to 200 amp service in Jan. 2008.
The 1/2 acre yards has Fruit trees, Blackberry Bushes, and plenty of flowers in a Private Rural setting.
