Three Mile Station

The oldest and must unique oceanfront residence in
Kitty Hawk, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Originally constructed in 1896, the Victorian
structure has undergone a total and complete
renovation from 2000 to 2002. All new windows,
hardyplank siding, new roof, new decks, complete
interior with special attention to its original
Victorian style, total rewiring and plumbing with new
electrical and plumbing fixtures throughout.

This home generates about $50,000 rental income annually. Three Mile Station is the most attractive home on the
Outer Banks.

A home with history. Read about it in the electronic
book offered for free on the website, Rebecca of the
Outer Banks.

In the process of the restoration I found a diary that belonged to the first owner of this house. From that diary came the book that I titled “Rebecca of the Outer Banks”. She was a wife of the boat captain, lost at sea. She kept the oil lights burning for years, illuminating the home in hopes that her husband would somehow find his way home and back into her arms. Seamen who knew the story named the house Three Mile Station, and used it to identify their location off the Kitty Hawk coast..

The home was visited numerous times by the Wright Brothers while experimenting with their flying gliders and eventually their flying machine. Rebecca chronicles their visits, and how she felt about these two brothers in her diary.
I restored this house with respect to the history with deep abiding love. It is the most photographed house in Kitty Hawk, not a typical beach cabin.
