Built in or before 1792 the Cree house is considered one if not the oldest houses in Greene County. It has been restored and updated with a gourmet kitchen but keeping the feel of homes of the time with such items as hand forged Rattail hinges, soapstone countertops and farm sink, original walk-in fireplace with wrought iron swing arm. There are 3 stories plus a basement in the stone part of the house and two stories on the log side. The house sits on 11.2 rolling acres that include cleared fields, perennial gardens, two ponds, walnut, chestnut, maple, oak and a variety of other trees.

This two story stone springhouse was built in or before the house in 1792 is fully restored. It houses a stone fireplace on the main level and fully functioning cistern on the lower level that runs into the pond on the lower part of the property.

Cabinets were hand built by local artisan. The kitchen includes farmhouse sink, prep sink, dishwasher, trash compactor, built-in refrigerator, and Ilve imported stove from Italy that has two ovens, six burners plus a grill, two rotisseries and a warming drawer.

Hand carved soap stone skirted farm sink. The period piece settle/hall tree was made by a local artisan. It stays with the house.
Deep window sills are common throughout the house especially in the stone part of the house with the walls being 2ft thick.

Located in the log portion of the home is a walk-in stone fireplace in the living room. A soapstone stove has been added for extra warmth. Wood beam ceilings and extra storage through out the house.

Highlights of the Cree House
The Cree house is set in rural Green County but has the advantage of being near everything. You can be in Pittsburgh, PA in 45 minutes or in Morgantown, WV in 20.If you love history this house has it. There is the original cemetery of the Cree's on site with 9 intact tombstones on the upper portion of the acreage dating back to the revolutionary war. Many of the home's history has been handed down from owner to owner so with the house comes historical pictures, documents such as the original owners will and family tree, etc.
The house has been fully restored including repointing of the main house and the springhouse, all new paint, remodeled kitchen and bathroom and many other features. The original wood beam ceilings are still intact and never been painted. Each room is extremely large 27 x 24 or larger. There are siting areas in every bedroom and a small office off of the second bedroom on the second floor with built in shelves. The second bedroom also houses a cedar lined closet.
The original stone spring house has been totally restored. Repointed inside and out, new metal roof, new wide plank oak floors, hand forged iron hardware new and old. An old plank door from the original log house that was on property and lived in before the stone house was built was used for the front door. The cistern runs continuously. Stained glass window brought in from an old church in northern PA.
There is a functional 15 x 10 permanent chicken coop and storage shed.
The main part of the property is fenced and includes several areas of hand built stone walls. A portion of the property has been cleared for a small farming operation if interested. Nature abounds on this acreage and if hunting is your desire it could be done right on property.
