The Villa
Beautiful Victorian Italianate home, nestled among ancient camphor trees on a huge 17,000 sqft lot, is a fine example of Tustin's historical past. The interior boasts wood floors, exquisite hand-carved wood molding and casings and a spectacular wood-paneled library/den with the first known use of eucalyptus wood as an interior finish. The three bedrooms and grand stairway are beautifully detailed and one of the bedrooms has a “baby” room off one side. The property also features a DETACHED TWO-STORY CARRIAGE HOUSE which has been converted to a guest bedroom with bath downstairs and a 500 sqft one bedroom caretaker's apartment upstairs. This historically significant property was once a hotel and a stagecoach stop. In fact, there are photos of the property with a horse-drawn stage in front of the house taken in the late 1800's. The house was converted to a residence called "The Villa" by owner Charles Wheaton Wilcox who is one of Tustin's major pioneers. Wilcox's large collection of books was housed in The Villa's eucalyptus wood-paneled library, which is believed to be the first such use of this wood. Wilcox helped found and was a director of the First National Bank of Tustin. He also helped start the Episcopal Church of Tustin.
