This 8,800 sq ft unique Victorian Italianate was built in 1840 and owned for many years by the very first Windsor Locks selectman, Lucius B. Chapman. It was also the home and office of one of the most respected and renowned doctors in the area, Sidney R. Burnap. Many Civil War soldiers convalesced here. Only 4 owners have occupied this residence over the last 160 years. Many grand weddings also took place here.

Built with handmade brick, the walls range from 6”-10” in thickness. Original woodwork throughout. Ornate plaster ceiling and medallions grace the living and dining rooms. The first two floors have 12’ ceilings and original ornate radiators. Floor to ceiling 9’ windows are on the first floor, many with the original glass. Distinctive architectural windows were used throughout the house.

The large foyer has the original exceptional newel post and balustrade of mahogany. There are 6 beautiful marble fireplaces, each different in style. All 3 floors have had the original floors finished to a gleaming shine. The third floor houses a large billiard room. The main house has 21 rooms with a 5-room in-law apartment.

The manicured grounds are private with a grape arbor and vegetable garden. The 4-car garage and 3 bay shed are all freshly painted. The main porch wraps around 3 sides of the building affording many nights of comfortable breezes. There is also a smaller front porch and a service porch in the back.

Situated on 1.9 acres at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac with views of the Connecticut River, it is only minutes from Bradley International Airport and the city of Hartford. With city water and sewer, the taxes in the town of Windsor Locks are extremely low. Zoned a downtown renewal district, would make a wonderful bed and breakfast.
