Country Willows

Country Willows Main House
Country Willows Main House
Built in 1896, the Inn was once a working horse farm and remnants of its past are evident in the many farm implements found throughout the property. The barn once housed a stallion fertility station; over the years rooms in both the inn and the barn were added and fashioned in a craftsman manner to reflect its original heritage. Throughout its history as both a farm and an inn, perennial gardens have been planted, fences mended, and animals nurtured, a testament to the on-going rhythm and life of this Ashland farmstead/inn. Now in its third decade as a bed and breakfast inn, Ashland's Country Willows Inn welcomes both returning and new guests each year.

Country Willows

“Country Willows” is currently a nine-room bed and breakfast encompassing a gracious 1896 farmhouse, a cottage, and romantic barn suites. Situated on five acres of spacious grounds with sweeping views, the property is within a short drive to the center of vibrant downtown Ashland. Ashland is well-known for its quality of life, mild four-season climate, and as the home of both the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Southern Oregon University.

History:

Up through the 1940’s, the property was the heart of a working dairy farm. Since then, it has served as a horse farm and breeding center, a private physician’s residence, then in 1985 became one of the first bed and breakfasts in Ashland.

Future:

The location, size, charm, and features combine to make this property exceptionally well suited to a wide number of uses. Some possibilities…..

• Continued operation as a B&B, with the possible expansions such as a conference/wedding center or an equestrian B&B
• Private residence/family retreat, with myriad options including separate office/studio, guest house unit(s), in-law suite, and/or apartment rentals
• Private residence with agricultural options, e.g. a vineyard, horse farm, etc. all made possible by the irrigation rights that come with the land

The Property:

The views are striking; the Cascade Mountains provide a panorama from the front of the Inn, while the foothills of the Siskiyous form the backdrop. The main house is surrounded by lawns and mature landscaping including numerous perennial gardens. There is a 18X36 heated swimming pool and an outdoor spa surrounded by a deck complete with lounge chairs, tables, and umbrellas. Hikers/walkers can access Ashland’s extensive trail network from the property.

The grounds feature fruit trees, herb gardens, a vegetable garden, grape arbor, and private areas for relaxation. Country Willows has water rights to an irrigation canal used to keep the landscape lush and green. Water also adds interest to the property in the form of a year-round stream and a farm pond, home to the signature Country Willows geese. The fact that this 5-acre parcel is found in such close proximity to Ashland center makes this property truly unique.

Buildings:

Finished living space totals 6862 sq. ft. spread out in four buildings. Recent extensive remodeling of the guest rooms in the house and cottage reflect a European country theme with antiques throughout. The comfortable innkeeper’s residence consists of a great room, bedroom, master bath, and private patio. Included are many built-in features and a fireplace. Additional owners’ space is housed in the multi-purpose studio adjacent to the barn, with magnificent second-story views. The commercial kitchen was remodeled in 2006 incorporating up-to-date stainless steel appliances. In addition to the four guest units, there is a large unfinished space in the barn (including horse stalls currently) with future development potential. In a separate building, there is a two-car garage with a workshop and laundry/utility center.

Further Information:

The Country Willows property is in excellent condition reflecting a tradition of continuous improvements funded by the business income since its establishment as a B&B in 1985.
