Historic Tankersley Tavern
c. 1835 Tankersly Tavern, built into a rock ledge at the site where the old covered bridge crossed the Maury River into Lexington for more than a century. Painstakingly renovated (with some cosmetic work in progress) this cozy home w/ original heart pine floors, beveled glass, 9’ ceilings & a cistern circular stairway is a rare find. The amazing gardens have been the envy of master gardeners for years. The grounds also include a small fish pond, gated garden areas w/paths leading the top of the property near Hunter Hill, where civil war history books tell us was the site Gen. Hunter fired his canons at VMI. This prized 1.20+/- acre parcel also includes a greenhouse, shed, an old barn and Maury River frontage that is perfect for fun or just relaxing.Directly across from Lexington’s Jordan’s Point Park, a Historical, safe, canoeing & swimming destination. This home is a short walk to Downtown & Colleges. On the National Register of Historic Places & a Virginia Historic Landmark, this home has been on the Virginia Garden Week Tours.
