Historic Circa 1840’s Federal Colonial
Historic home enthusiasts will fall in love with this Federal Colonial style home dating back to the 1840s. The previous owner was a master
carpenter who completed a multi-year restoration process in the mid-2000s. Careful attention to the design aspects of the 1800s resulted in a
home that shines with authentic period details. Adding to the home’s sense of history is the list of past owners who are descendants of some of
Flemington’s earliest settlers.
Set on over seven rolling acres with a pond, detached three-car garage, paved parking area and garden shed with electric service, the home
faces the South Branch of the Raritan River located across the street. A long paved drive leads to the white clapboard dwelling capped by a metal roof. Brick walkways from the driveway approach a covered front porch supported by white columns.

Set on over seven rolling acres with a pond, detached three-car garage, paved parking area and garden shed with electric service, the home
faces the South Branch of the Raritan River located across the street. A long paved drive leads to the white clapboard dwelling capped by a metal
roof. Brick walkways from the driveway approach a covered front porch supported by white columns.
A sunny interior of approximately 3,000 square feet includes four bedrooms, two full baths and a powder room. Characteristic features such
as pumpkin pine flooring, deep moldings, four working fireplaces and four panel doors reflect the home’s early American aesthetic.
An entry foyer with wood floors reveals the first of three staircases in this Colonial. To the right is a formal living room delineated by picture
frame moldings set above wainscoting, crown and dentil moldings accenting high ceilings, wide plank wood flooring and a stone hearth fireplace
with a marble tile facade. On the opposite side of the foyer is a formal dining room with original pumpkin pine floors, crown, dentil and picture
frame moldings and a brick façade fireplace. A spacious family room features the home’s third fireplace, two chandeliers, raised panel walls,
crown moldings, and a rear stairway to the second floor. There is also a doorway to the rear covered porch and bluestone terrace. In the
charming den, built-in bookcases, a built-in desk and parquet flooring are exceptional design elements. The kitchen is located in the rear of the
home and was added in the late 1800s. Renovated in the 1980s, it now contains the third staircase, plus painted and stained cherry cabinetry. A
latch door cupboard, built-in hutch, double sinks, and updated appliances are added conveniences. Nearby is a powder room fitted with a
marble-topped vanity and a laundry room with backyard access and a bay window.
On the second story, four bedrooms include a gracious master suite. The large master bedroom has wide plank floors, a brick-faced woodburning
fireplace and an elegant chandelier. A step-down master dressing room contains a walk-in closet. An adjoining master bath offers a
shower stall, Corian™ topped oak vanity and two wall sconces. There is an office with staircase to the family room near the master suite. Three
more bedrooms share a full bath with jetted tub and shower combination. A full attic can be reached from the second story, offering conversion
possibilities for future living space.
The home’s mechanical systems are located in the walk out basement. Recent system upgrades include underground wiring for electric and
communications; heating and plumbing pipework relocated behind the walls and ceilings; three chimneys re-lined and replaced from the
basement to the roof; and roof rafters and the ridge on the main wing replaced and covered in stainless steel.
Raritan Township in Hunterdon County borders Somerset County’s Hillsborough Township. This home is located near the hamlet of Three
Bridges and is a short distance from Routes 202, 22, 78 and 287 for commuting. An extensive array of shopping, dining, recreational and
cultural offerings are nearby.
