Riverfront Heritage Estate near Fredericton and St. John N.B.

This 1845 heritage home is one of the major estates of the maritime eastern seaboard and is located on 5 acres of riverfront property in the historic village of Gagetown, New Brunswick. The home is an excellent example of early Gothic architecture – it has been beautifully preserved and is listed in the Architectural Registry of Canadian Homes and in Building New Brunswick: An Architectural History.

This lovingly restored three-story waterfront home is nestled quietly among beautiful acacia trees and overlooks the St. John River Valley in the village of Gagetown, New Brunswick. Sitting on one of the 2 verandas, you can listen to the tapping of woodpeckers as sailboats drift by.

The home was built for Queens County High Sheriff, Nathaniel DeVeber. Privacy, peace and tranquility encompass you from the moment you walk through the large Gothic front doors, and are presented with the grand staircase in the large foyer. The formal living and dining rooms have intricate woodworking; tall windows frame gorgeous views.

The estate is 3 story, 7000 square foot, and contains 6 bedrooms and 1 ½ bath. The master bedroom on the second floor has a fireplace and 4 large windows that provide a 270 degree view (up and down the river and looking over the estate grounds). We have done extensive functional and aesthetic remodeling, including a $40 K roof retrofits; attic renovation with pine floors and insulated cedar walls; a new electric double furnace with a heat pump that supports wood burning and also provides A/C; a large working fireplace in the kitchen; and completely renovated electrical wiring.

Throughout the entire home, rooms have original woodwork, door casings, sash, moldings & windows plus gorgeous medallions, high ceilings & original pine floors.

Claremont sits on the periphery of the Village of Gagetown in close proximity to both St. John and Fredericton. Gagetown is a quaint historical village which offers most necessary amenities, and is the home of many talented artists.
