And there's much more to this home and community.....
Every update, of which there have been many, has been in keeping with its historical integrity. The rocking chair front porch is the heart of many social activities and a gathering place for friends and neighbors along our grand street, with other beautifully maintained historic homes and churches surrounding us. Everyone takes such pride in these old homes. And it's located just a few doors down from the newly restored Weldon Auditorium, the cultural arts center of the region, hosting many concerts, theatre productions and other cultural activities. From the front porch, you'll have the best view in town of the 1841 gothic style Presbyterian Church (picture below) directly across the street. It's incredible. The historical significance and home values on this street are very steady and rarely come on the market.
This home was recently featured in the Charleston Post & Courier Newspaper, historic real estate section, Saturday edition. The writer loved the home and compared it to many of the great old homes of Charleston.
The oak floors in the main level are beautifully inlaid with mahogany designs. The kitchen floors came from a 200 year old textile mill and are just incredible. Upstairs, the floors are heart pine and are very pretty as well.
There is a separate central heat/air unit for both the main and upstairs floors. There are 7 original fireplaces, 2 with gas logs. The original chimneys are in very good condition. There is one wood burning newer fireplace in the Family Room.
Manning is an historic community with many Revolutionary War battles fought in the area. The movie “Patriot” with Mel Gibson was written to portray General Francis Marion, “The Swamp Fox”, struggles with the British during the American Revolution. The downtown area boasts many murals portraying these battles.
This home is located just 2 miles off I-95 halfway between NY and Miami, and just over an hour from historic Charleston. Lake Marion with 175,000 acres of lake area is a huge attraction for fishermen, as this is the home of the original landlocked striped bass. Lake Marion also has lots of golf, tennis and social events.
Historic Charleston & Columbia, and South Carolina's Grand Strand (Myrtle Beach) are an easy drive. This is a growing market with many retiring couples, but lots of young families, as well.
