Fabulous historic home

One of the oldest homes in Knox County. This fine historic brick edifice was built in 1848 as a side entry, two story Greek Revival style home. Sometime in the 1850’s or later the home was expanded with an addition that more than doubled its original size. The 1850’s transformation resulted in an elegant symmetrical center hall Greek Revival Style home with a large kitchen wing. The house was remodeled again in the late 1920s, but retains two original fireplaces and much of the original woodwork from the 1850’s era. The 1920s added a Georgian arched fanlight above the front door and the fabulous classical triangular pediment and a columned door surround. The beautiful oak floors throughout the house, a well designed second floor bath, and a large office off the kitchen were also added in the 1920’s remodel. A charming bay-windowed study was created from a side porch. The home has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, formal living and dining, a large kitchen, a study, an office, first floor laundry. The most recent addition is an over size one car attached garage with entry into the office next to the kitchen.

The large corner, lot shaded by maple trees, is a perfect setting for this historic gem. In addition to the beautiful lawn, one finds a brick patio shielded from the street by a decorative masonry wall and an old lilac hedge. This secluded spot is a great place for bird watching, a quiet place to read a book, or a shady retreat for entertaining guests.
