A BIT MORE INFO ABOUT THIS BRICK COUNTRY HOME

THIS HISTORIC BRICK HOUSE WAS BUILT BY JOSIAS LAMONT, ONE OF THE EARLIEST SETTLERS IN THIS AREA, IN 1823. SOME OF HIS DESCENDANTS STILL LIVE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THE HOUSE STANDS ON JUST UNDER AN ACRE OF LAND ON A PAVED COUNTRY ROAD AND IS SURROUNDED BY APPLE ORCHARDS. IT HAS A CHARMING, OLD-FASHIONED AMBIENCE, IN A PEACEFUL SETTING. THE MOST NOTABLE EXTERIOR FEATURE IS THE DEEP CORNICE, WHICH IS MADE ENTIRELY OF BRICK, THE WORK OF AN EXTRAORDINARILY SKILLED CRAFTSMAN. THE SHUTTERS ON THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE ARE ORIGINAL. THERE IS A SCREEDED-IN FRONT PORCH AND A BACK DECK. THE ORIGINAL SMOKEHOUSE STILL SITS IN THE BACKYARD, WHICH HAS A VARIETY OF TREES. THE FRONT DOOR (ORIGINAL) LEADS INTO A HALL, WITH A STAIRCASE TO THE SECOND FLOOR. DOUBLE DOORS ON THE LEFT LEAD TO THE LIVING ROOM. THE DOOR TO THE RIGHT LEADS TO A ROOM WHICH WAS THE ORIGINAL COMPLETE FARMHOUSE, WHICH HAD A SLEEPING LOFT ABOVE. THERE IS A LARGE "COUNT RUMFORD STYLE" FIREPLACE WITH A CRANE AND A LITTLE ALCOVE NEXT TO IT, PERFECT FOR A ROCKING CHAIR AND SOME FAVORITE BOOKS. THE PINE FLOOR GIVES A FEELING OF WARMTH. THIS ROOM IS CURRENTLY THE DINING ROOM. ANOTHER SUNNY ROOM IS A BEDROOM, CURRENTLY BEING USED AS A STUDY. THE EAT-IN KITCHEN IS IN THE WOODEN WING AT THE BACK OF THE HOUSE. BEYOND THAT IS A LAUNDRY ROOM, A MUD ROOM AND TWO UNFINISHED STOREROOMS. THE BASEMENT HAS STONE WALLS AND THE ORIGINAL LOG BEAMS. UPSTAIRS THERE IS A LARGE BEDROOM, A SMALLER BEDROOM, A HALF BATH, AND A TINY ROOM AT THE END OF THE LANDING. THE HOUSE IS LOCATED IN A RURAL AREA, BETWEEN ROCHESTER AND BUFFALO, NY, ABOUT 4 MILES SOUTH OF LAKE ONTARIO AND ABOUT 1 MILE NORTH OF THE ERIE CANAL.
