The Curtis House
The heart of the home with 9 foot hearth, 2 beehive ovens and gas fire log. Original hand-hewn beams, the Keeping Room spans the back of the home, accessible from the upstairs, parlor and dining room.
Elegant raised wall panels and trim molding surround the fireplace create a formal sitting room. Varying width pine and oak floors run throughout home with well-worn smoothness earned by their age.
Formal Dining Room
The formal dining room reveals more original delights from a rare plaster colonial anaglyph with an antique Czech layered glass chandelier. A fireplace framed in English Minton tile sits near the original corner cabinet near the door to the Keeping Room and Kitchen.
Sitting area of the Keeping Room
Classic 32-pane window at the far end of the Keeping Room allows the afternoon sun to bathe the room with light and overlooks the side yard gardens.
The two front bedrooms have the traditional fireplace and both overlook Academy Hill. Spacious, bright and charming.
Also overlooking Academy Hill, the master bedroom also has a fireplace. Two additional bedrooms overlook the back yard with cobbler's shed. The laundry and full, updated bath is also on the second floor with bedrooms.
Updated in 2011 with all new tile, new tub and marble floor.
Just a short walk to Stratford Train Station, Stratford's waterfront along the Housatonic River and marinas. A private back yard with gardens, the Curtis' Cobbler Shop now used for garden tools and storage add to the charm of this great antique home.
