History

The home was originally built by a wealthy local banker, Adolphus P. (A.P.) Rodewald and his wife in 1914. It was designed by well known Jacksonville, Illinois Architect, J.K.C. Pierson. In 1945 the Schuyler Hotel burned to the ground on the Rushville square and its owner, Antonie Zeh, purchased the home from the then widowed Mrs. Rodewald and converted it into the Schuyler Hotel and Canary Room restaurant. A popular hotel and restaurant for almost two decades, in the sixties, the home was converted into a six unit apartment house. Purchased by the current owner in 1987, a long and thorough restoration began to restore the home to its original single family configuration. The home has a lot of history, with stories of illegal slot machine gambling taking place in the restaurant kitchen pantry in the 40s and 50s. Search eBay and you'll always find postcards of the Schuyler Hotel for sale. Comes with six sets of the original blueprints, architect's specifications and lots of memorabilia and ephemera from its hotel days.
