More About This House

This beautiful home was originally built about 1852 on Railroad Street in downtown Newnan. It was later moved to Salbide Avenue in Newnan, and, finally, was moved to its present location at 4039 Roscoe Road in the little community of Roscoe in north Coweta County near Serenbe. The home has great " bones" and has all the fine details of a true antebellum home including heart pine floors, and nice moldings. The home has a big front porch with columns and a wide central hall. There are two bedrooms both with masonry fireplaces, and a bath with a large, historic footed tub plus a separate shower and a double vanity. There is a living room with a masonry fireplace, a formal dining room with a fireplace, as well as a large solarium with many bookcases. There is a kitchen with tile countertops and a screen porch off of it. There is a walk-up attic which is stubbed for a bath, and there is a double drive under garage in the basement plus a large laundry room. The property contains 5 acres which is mostly wooded, and the home has a fine tin roof,. The home sits up high and has a great view. The home was meticulously restored by the present owner using the correct materials for historic preservation. The home is in need of some work, and will be sold on an " as is " basis with the present owner doing no repairs. The home is very livable and has a lot of charm and quality, and it is a one of a kind home. You can add your own personal touches to this masterpiece of craftsmanship.

Surrounding Area

The schools in Coweta County are excellent. The Roscoe area is served by Brooks Elementary School which is very nearby, Madras Middle School and Newnan High School. The property has easy access to I-85 at Exits 51 or 47 , and downtown Newnan and Ashley Park shopping and restaurants are an easy drive away. Downtown Newnan is known as "The City Of Homes" and boasts of 6 historic districts plus an old Courthouse and Court Square. The charm of living in Newnan is the vibrant community itself, accented by many beautiful historic homes and buildings.

History

This home has been moved twice and it has been a well loved and livable home for many families. It was present near the Old Train Depot in the Civil War when General E.M. McCook's Federal Cavalry took on General Joe Wheeler's Confederate cavalry during the Battle Of Brown's Mill which began on East Broad Street. This home would have had a front row seat. The home has been lovingly restored in the little community of Roscoe near the site of famous Dunaway Gardens where the actress Minnie Pearl was trained by hettie Jane Dunaway Sewell and her husband Wayne Sewell at the Patchwork Barn Theater.

Recent Improvements

The home has modern conveniences, and the " bones" are good, but it needs some TLC. It needs an updated kitchen and the attic could be easily finished to add bedrooms and a bath. The HVAC has central L.P.gas heat and central electric air-conditioning. The roof is a fine tin roof. Two columns were recently replaced and the home does need painting. The home is sold on an " as is " basis and the Seller will make no repairs.
