Private 2.5 Acre Home under an Hour from NYC

Stunning Gardens Welcome you Home
Stunning Gardens Welcome you Home
The tranquil setting on 2.5 acres makes this a perfect weekend getaway or full time residence. This magical home has its own individual style and brings the romance and charm of yesterday while combining that with the modern conveniences of today. Pumpkin pine floors are accented by the beamed ceilings while the array of windows and French doors allow the sun to shine through in almost every room. The spaces are interchangeable…which makes this house so unique. The master suite is on the first floor, as is the second bedroom and office/studio. Although a true artist might want the sun swept master bedroom to be a studio and have one of the two bedrooms on the second floor pose as the master. The family room off the kitchen might also be considered a stunning dining room while the current dining room could be transposed to be an elegant sitting room…Three decorative fireplaces adorn the first floor and as is common in older homes, there is a step up to some of the rooms.

The grounds offer a multitude of possibilities including an expansion of the stunning garden that currently adorn the front yard. The circular driveway conveniently allows several off street parking spots and there is a perfect space for you to build a barn/garage if desired

Located just two minutes from the NJ transit train to NYC.

A Bit of History....

This secluded antique farmhouse was originally built in 1730 consisting of the two rooms with corner fireplaces and a sleeping loft. The living & dining room areas were added about 1750 with the shed kitchen in the mid 1800’s. Two other rooms were added in the 1920’s.

The front façade of the house was changed to its current look in 1994 when the entire first main floor was taken up in order to install a foundation for the front wall. The floor sat on old logs which were removed. At this time the current owners conducted an archeological dig at night discovering many artifacts from mid 1700 era. Coins, clay pipes, bone handle knives and buttons are displayed in the case. The vertical posts had footings installed underneath them as instructed by a structural engineer. A concrete slab was poured and a new front wall and entry way created. The front courtyard was created with a French drain behind the stone wall that transports any water towards the pond.

The wide plank flooring was sourced from Maine through Carlisle flooring. The upstairs project converted an attic space to a bedroom along with adding the dormer that houses the office space.
