More About This House

Few houses combine an authentic century with TV royalty - 2130 Monticello Street does just that. The iconic, In the Heat of the Night Series, was filmed on location in this 130-year old home located in Covington, GA. This home was ‘Chief Gillespie’s home (Carroll O’Connor played Gillespie in the series. Many locals, including the understudy for Mr. O’Connor, are still around to tell the stories of that special time. Though the show wrapped in 1994, many hundreds make a pilgrimage to ‘Sparta’ AKA Covington and marvel to see the houses were not a set in Hollywood but an actual town square. Just last October over 650 avid fans came to town to reunite with six of the show’s stars. A short three blocks from the property is the lovely town Square where various shops flourish; from restaurants to boutiques to a new Irish Pub and Mystic Grill Restaurant, famous for the Vampire Diaries, is on the Square.

Upon entering the front door, you immediately notice the spectacular hardwood floors that gleam and glisten with heart pine and oak woods. The open floor plan allows you to appreciate the home’s many features. Original Depression Glass Windows grace the front parlors with its’ wavy features while flooding the rooms with gorgeous natural light. High ceilings add grandeur to each room. The kitchen has been upgraded with New Samsung stainless steel appliances. The hardwoods are a perfect flooring for an active kitchen. New Brazilian ‘Nile River’ Exotic Granite cover the all preparation surfaces. The island holds a Franke Stainless Sink with a Moen faucet. Along the perimeter you find a Glass Mosaic Tile backsplash and walls washed in ‘Chic Peach’ which add color while keeping a neutral backdrop. This kitchen is perfect for those that love to cook and entertain. The home was the setting for Nathalie Dupree’s Public TV Cooking show. Dupree was a resident of the home in the 1970s.

Fireplaces adorn almost all rooms. The main floor’s fireplace is truly unique with its wood and tile accents. The house has two staircases, one main and one smaller off the kitchen sunroom. On the main is a potential in-law suite or home office, full bath, sunroom and the two parlors along with a very large formal dining room that could seat 12+.

Surrounding Area

A short three blocks from the property is the lovely town Square where various shops flourish; from restaurants to boutiques to a new Irish Pub and Mystic Grill Restaurant, famous for the Vampire Diaries, is on the Square.

Covington has a vibrant community and you will enjoy living in this home while becoming a part of this small town community. Industries such as Baxter, Bard and General Mills represent some of the many companies that call Covington home. The days of living far from work are over; no need to work in Atlanta when world class companies are right here.
