The home and its location were suitable for its owner, Emma Herschmann, a wealthy woman from a prominent family in the East. Her wealth allowed her to use the finest building materials, and no expense was spared to build this lovely Colonial Revival home. The house was moved to its current location around 1988, when Vintage Lane was professionally planned as a historic preservation community, siting the homes to present a full view along the porch lines, which creates a neighbor friendly environment. The bricks leading to the open porch were reused from the basement of the original 1903 site when the house was moved. Ms. Margaret Atkins and her daughter Marcia lovingly restored the home. The current owners have also added to the restoration of this home by making it livable for the modern homeowner, while retaining the charm and character of the irreplaceable vintage features. Restored woodwork and elaborate Victorian “ball and spindle” fretwork frame the formal entry. Original woodwork has been stripped of paint and fully restored, framing the doorway from the front parlor to the dining room. The unusually high ceilings give a real sense of openness to the entire home. Refined hardwoods floors throughout the home continue the turn of the century ambience. A large, bright, and airy kitchen in the rear of the house has an abundance of cabinets and a beautiful south-facing window. Modern conveniences such as a dishwasher make this charming kitchen easy to use.. A beautiful, bay-window lined breakfast room offers a breathtaking view of the colorful and private rear yard. The back yard is enhanced with a newer deck with retractable awning, built-in spa, and the large covered patio doubles as extra parking. This home features nearly 2,900 square feet of living space. Approximately 700 square feet is above the oversized three-car garage, built new when the home was relocated to the site. The space above the garage would make a wonderful bonus room or possibly a “granny unit” if permitted by the city of Anaheim. There are a total of four bedrooms in this home. Of the three downstairs bedrooms, one is large enough to be currently used as a family room, and features double French doors and a small deck opening to the lush side yard. This downstairs bedroom can also be used as a master bedroom, as it has direct access to a full bathroom. The upper floor features a master bedroom with fireplace, beautiful balcony, private bathroom and walk in closet area. This home features three full bathrooms, a luxury even wealthy Emma Herschmann could not have envisioned in 1903. When the home was relocated, new electrical, plumbing, central air and heat were added, and a new foundation was laid, giving this home newer amenities with vintage charm, the best of all worlds!
