House History & Details
Built in 1921, The Wright House, has a peaceful country setting. Originally a 600 acre farm that raised cotton, strawberries and livestock. Large Oak trees provide a picturesque setting for this Folk Victorian farm house. Although originally there was only a wood cook stove, wood heaters and the fireplace to cook and heat with the home has been updated with all the modern conveniences in both the kitchen and throughout the house with central heat and air,and up to code wiring and plumbing, while at the same time preserving the original stained wood window frames, base boards, wood floors and beaded board ceilings. Storm windows have been added to preserve the original windows while at the same time keeping utility cost reasonable and, they resemble the original screens that were used. The exterior has maintenance free aluminum siding and it closely matches the original wood lap siding. The roof is less than 5 years old and has asphalt architectural shingles that resemble the original wood shake shingles. There are 3 outbuildings; a pole barn, a tenant/camp house and the Delco House. There is a Box house on a joining property that is available.There wasn't electricity available in rural Arkansas when the house was built so they used a generator and batteries for their electrical needs. One story is that since the Wrights had electricity, people would come and listen to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio. The tenant house housed migrant workers and farm hands.The house is well built, well maintained and is a great place for living the simple life while at the same time only minutes from town.
Yankee Road
The Wright House resides on Yankee Road. Mrs. Wright was instrumental in getting the road named due to the fact that she knew Union Soldiers had marched down the road and had camped on Flat Creek about a quarter mile north of the house.
