c. 1820 Farmhouse

A Witness to History

Historic property is just about 3 miles from Gettysburg, PA. and has been used for more than 25 years as a cattle farm. The outbuildings are more than sufficient for storing hay and feeding a small herd of cattle, flock of sheep, or keeping horses. Electricity and water service the fenced pastures & all buildings. Year-round view of the South Mountains from the house makes this a very desirable and unique estate.

1820s STONE HOME ON 43 ACRES

Located on the site of Confederate Reserve Division Encampment in July 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. Fabulous stone home with modern kitchen, four-season room & historic ambiance. Two main-level bedroom suites, stone fireplace, wood flooring. Fenced pastures, woods, outbuildings.

A Brief History

During the three days of the Battle of Gettysburg, John Arendt and his family lived in the stone house and farmed the acreage surrounding it. The claim which he submitted to the US Government for the damages done by the rebels who killed his hogs, trampled his crops, stole the tack for his horse, and ripped shingles from his barn for their campfires, was never paid.

At the end of the first day of fighting, General Robert E. Lee's reserve division (Anderson's) was camped at Arendt's farm as were the Army of Northern Virginia's logistical troops and supply wagons.
