The Hill Estate

Gorgeous Colonial Revival home built in 1906 and was known for several decades as The Hill Estate. Lovingly refurbished and renovated while keeping the original charm, sophistication and grandeur.

This house features a large porch overlooking Main Street and is just a few steps from Sylvania’s refurbished downtown square. The porch is a perfect perch for watching the several festival parades that pass through downtown each year. It’s also a lovely place to swing or relax on lazy afternoons.

The front door, side lights and transom feature original beveled glass panels that sparkle in the sunlight. Upon entering the house you’ll notice the refinished original heart pine floors, tall ceilings and grand rooms. The wainscoting of the front parlor is original to the house. The parlor also features two ceiling fans and a working wood burning fireplace. Original French doors to the right of the entrance lead to a beautiful study with a fireplace and custom book shelves.

The chandelier in the impressive dining room is also original to the house. In the dining room you’ll notice a beautiful fireplace with an antique, fully functioning gas heater insert and comfortable, upholstered window benches with ample storage beneath. Designer wall paper and upholstery fabric really make this dining room a show piece. The custom stenciling and faux finish above the picture railing was created by a local artist. Original French doors lead to both the front parlor and the covered portico on the side of the house.

The very large gourmet kitchen is a recent refurbishment and its crowning jewels are the stainless steel Kitchenaid appliances; custom, solid Cherry cabinets; and Corian countertops. This kitchen is functional, as well as comfortable and impressive. There is a wet bar area complete with a wine rack, wine cooler and under the counter ice machine. Any cook, baker or entertainer could make the most impressive of meals in this kitchen with a five burner cook top, built in microwave, convection oven and warming drawer. Cleaning up is a breeze in this kitchen with conveniently located yet hidden trash bins; Bosch dishwasher; and deep, double sinks. The Vermont soapstone wood burning stove; custom entertainment/computer desk; large walk-in pantry; lighted iron pot rack; and a French door that leads to the large sleeping porch complete this impressive kitchen.

The master suite is a rare find. The bedroom/sitting area is very large by today’s standards and feature custom built in bookshelves and fireplace as well as new carpet. The bright and airy master bathroom is located right off of the master bedroom in the former downstairs sun porch. A very large, two person Jacuzzi tub; gorgeous pedestal sinks; heart pine floors; water closet; custom walk in closet; fire place; and extra large walk-in shower that has dual showerheads, body sprays and a handheld shower, as well as a recovered/refurbished stained glass window are all highlights of this luxurious bathroom. Conveniently located off of the master bathroom is the laundry room which also has exterior access.

The downstairs guest bedroom also has a fireplace, bead board wainscoting with custom beaded trim, and a private bath with shower. Two of the upstairs bedrooms feature private bathrooms: one has been refurbished and one still features a claw foot tub that is original to the house. Off of one of the upstairs bedrooms is a private sun porch which overlooks the drive and Main Street. The front bedroom upstairs would be perfect for either a play room or a nursery and overlooks scenic Main Street.

The lot is large for the downtown area and features alley access to the rear of the property. There is plenty of room for the kids to play in the backyard. Large above ground pool. Rounding out the highlights of the house is a multi-bay carport and exterior accessible basement.
