GONE WITH THE WIND MANSION

This exquisite antebellum Greek Revival mansion, built in 1849, served as Confederate headquarters and a hospital during the War Between the States. It is proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Relax in the shade of centuries-old Oak and Pecan trees. The property is sprinkled with flowering trees and bushes as well as perennials and boxwoods. White picket fencing surrounds a lovely courtyard area around the house with winding paths and a cherub birdbath.

An impressive, winding staircase with figural light on the banister greets you as you enter the front doors into the wide, central hallway. Dramatic, jewel-toned colors have been used throughout the house. A library with built-in bookcases with walls of "Bing Cherry" and a formal sitting parlor/music room painted in "Hemlock Green" are on either side of the entry foyer. The floors are original, heart pine except for the kitchen, which was added in the 1920's with oak flooring.

Antique crystal chandeliers from Egypt hang throughout the wide, central hallways and in the portico.

The first floor consists on the following rooms: formal sitting parlor or music room; library with built-in bookcases, master bedroom suite, master bath with a large, original claw foot tub and mahogany Romeo and Juliet sink, matching Bombe chest and mirror; additional bedroom, banquet-sized dining room, breakfast room, eat-in kitchen and laundry room.

The 2nd floor consists of 4 bedroom suites, each with its own private bath and fireplace, 1 storage room (extra laundry room) and closet as well as a wide central hallway. There is a full attic with pull-down stairs on the 3rd floor.

The large, gourmet kitchen has a charm all its own with large island, tiled countertops, oak hardwood flooring and new Jenn-Air and Maytag appliances. The Jenn-Air double oven has a convection oven as well as a regular oven. There are an abundance of cabinets, built-in corner shelves and shelving around the whole perimeter of the kitchen to display collectibles. The walls are covered with faux brick paneling which gives it a warm, Old World charm. There is an antique Greek Revival fireplace mantel in the kitchen to add a unique touch of warmth and elegance.

The laundry room with shelves, cabinets and built-in folding table is conveniently located off the kitchen which makes doing laundry a breeze.

A banquet-sized dining room, which seats 20-26 people, is painted in True Navy with 24 karat gold on the wainescoting. It has a fabulous Greek Revival fireplace and elegant crystal chandelier and is situated across the wide hallway from the master bedroom suite. There is also a large bay window in the dining room, which makes a wonderful alcove for additional seating.

There is a breakfast room, keeping room, office or small bedroom, located between the kitchen and dining room, which has built-in cabinets with doors and is wired for computer, cable and telephone.

There are eight working fireplaces in the home that have been converted to gas logs for cleanliness and safety.

There are two, new, central air and heat units which were replaced in 2001. A new gas hot water heater was installed in March of 2004. There are also eight ceiling fans installed in the home and one ceiling fan on the verandah.

A romantic lighted gazebo covered with fragrant, old-fashioned roses is situated in view of the courtyard area and verandah. The gazebo is carpeted with deep green indoor-outdoor carpet for a finished look. There is a detached garage behind the house, as well as a green house for potting and gardening.

There are several outdoor electric outlets located in the gazebo, courtyard and verandah.

There are two new automatic sprinkler systems installed on the grounds. Centipede sod has also been installed.

The rear acre has been completely fenced.

The house is completely furnished in period antiques and fine antique reproductions and can be purchased with or without furnishings.

The property functioned as a bed and breakfast as well as special event facility for approximately 10 years. Many weddings and receptions have been held at this beautifully, romantic setting.

This property has been featured on the Travel Channel, Discovery Channel, HGTV, Southern Living, documentaries, numerous magazines and newspapers.
