Captain Pollard's Flintlock Farm is located in the Town of Harvard, Massachusetts 01451, in the hamlet of Still River 01467. Harvard is known for the first settlement of the Shakers and today the town boasts one of the best school systems in the state.

Captain Pollard’s Flintlock Farm (also known as the Pollard Marshall farm) is located in the hamlet of Still River (01467) which is a section within the town of Harvard, MA (01451). It is a highly visible heritage farm and museum house with great notoriety due to its status of being nominated in 1993 for inclusion in the National Park Service’s Register of Historic Places making it Harvard’s 4th such site once the paperwork is finalized by the next owner (should they choose to pursue this coveted designation).
These five (5) aspects capture the primary reasons for this historic prominence:
1.) The high-style Georgian “mansion house” is documented as “rare” due to architectural form, features and “historic fabric” that still exist, untouched.
2.) Three notable individuals have lived at the site.
3.) Several significant historic events have taken place at the site
4.) A documented “historic object” is found at the site. “The Harvard Heritage Tree”, which graces the front lawn, is documented as the 3rd oldest Sycamore tree in the state.
5.) The colonial plantation’s 16.4 acres (2 contiguous parcels) are documented as having “prime farmland soils of statewide importance” by the National Resources Conservation Services (NRCS).
This very special colonial New England heritage plantation is an American treasure. It was built right after the American Revolution. Farm owners have worked the land ever since the farm’s establishment; a period of over 230 years. The site’s notoriety and visibility continue to the present day. The site has been reviewed by the Massachusetts Historic Commission and is listed with the Massachusetts Film Office. Four (4) commercial films have been shot on site over the recent past.
Captain Pollard’s Flintlock Farm has been carefully maintained by specialty preservation crafts-people, a number of which are from the PBS TV Show; “This Old House”.
Location:
Captain Pollard’s Flintlock Farm at Still River is conveniently located 47 miles northwest of Boston; a 54 minute drive or train ride from the South Acton train station. Still River is known for its agrarian history and amazing views of western Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The Fruitlands Museum’s 210 acre site is located 2.3 miles north of Flintlock Farm (http://www.fruitlands.org/). Harvard’s beautiful town common and general store are located 3.2 miles to the north.
