The Abram House

This beautiful Cape Cod home was built by Dr. Louis Abrams and his wife right before WWII. Listed as the Abram House in the historical registry, it stands out as one of the finest homes in the historic district. This home has so many great qualities you have to see it to appreciate it. When you walk in to this 2 story brick home, you enter a large foyer area with a beautiful view of the staircase, dining room, living room, and study. Two coat closets flank both side of the entryway. The formal dining room is to your left and the study/library to the right. The formal dining room is large and accented by two architectural alcoves built into two of the corners of the room. This gives the room a truly unique feel and adds to the beautiful wainscot that circles the room. The living room is open to the foyer with a Roman arch. The living room features a beautiful black marble fireplace and a lighted recessed glass shelf. Another great feature is two huge corner picture windows that give you the feeling of being outdoors when opened. Original golden oak floors highlight these rooms along with 8 inch crown molding. The sunroom is right off the living room and features a granite floor. Other granite slabs are displayed in the walkway leading to the road from the front door. More use of the granite is found in the granite fireplace located in the study/library. This amazing room has California Redwood tongue and groove V board paneling. Recessed shelves are located on either side of the fireplace and it’s a great place to display your book collection and other memorabilia. A built in wood box completes this room. The eat in kitchen is large and spacious and has plenty of cabinet space, ceramic tile floors, and bead board wainscoting to the floor. A large hood is located above the cook top and also has recessed holders for paper towels, tinfoil, and saran wrap. A pullout cutting board and lights mounted underneath the cabinets tell what great quality was used for a house built during this era. A patio is located off the side entrance from the kitchen. Great for cooking out and entertaining The downstairs features 10 ft ceilings that add to the comfort this house offers. The master bedroom and bath is located towards the back of the house. The bathroom has the original tiled floor in a beautiful basket weave design. There is a large closet in the bedroom and another large walk-in closet located off the rear foyer that leads to the back screened in porch.

The upstairs has three large bedrooms and a full bath. Two of the bedrooms have triple windows that keep it bright and continues the happy feeling you get in this home. The other bedroom has heart of pine floors and a vaulted ceiling and would make a great game room. Six panel solid wood doors throughout the house is another thing you don’t find much anymore. Solid brass handles add to the charm. Plantation shutters are installed in the three upstairs dormers. Beautiful custom drapery, including cornice boards are also found in the home.

Leading off the screened in porch onto the back is the laundry room and garage. The garage/laundry is a semi-attached structure that flanks the back yard and provides a large 16’ X 32’ garage with a side door, two windows and a large roll up door. Inside it’s perfect for storage with lots of large high shelves and 5’ X 12’ storage platform over the roll up door. The laundry room has washer and dryer hook ups and a bonus bathroom that includes a toilet and a small shower. The back yard is beautifully landscaped and features a koi pond. Enclosed by a privacy fence, you can relax and enjoy yourself. The front yard was professionally landscaped and includes mature pines. Removable window boxes adorn the four front windows. Beautifully designed shrubbery beds have electronically controlled lights that highlight the house after dark. A timed drip system protects the shrubs during a dry spell. Two light posts located at the end of the granite walkway complete the warm inviting feel when you look at the home. This home has been restored to its original beauty and is the talk of the town. It was featured in the 2004 “Christmas Tour of Homes” by the Junior Women’s League.
