Colonial,antebellum mansion. Recently occupied by George and Gladys Gwinn. Mr.Gwinn was a prominent horseman. The Gwinn family formerly owned the 1,000 acres now known as Shakertown. The land was sold to the Shakertown Trust some years ago. Mr. Yeiser purchased the land from John Crow on May 9, 1795. Robert Russel,Jr. built the house in 1804. The origional structure is believed to be the two story center of the house. Varying stories give the different owners credit for the further contributions to the property such as the portico, carved architrave, Ionic columns, stairs, and wings with balustrades. Bordered by three city streets, the downtown location of this unique estate lends to the fascination of the townspeople.
Eight outbuildings are located on the property. They include an office, detached 2 car garage, several small barns, three room cottage and two run in sheds for horses.
